Where Art Thou Strategy Games. Blog Update on Upcoming Content
We've entered a dry spell for strategy games. Call it a slow post E3 period or strategy game development cycle gap, it's not the perfect time to play new games. But I've got content lined up for you. Read on for a blog update.
Post E3 is generally known for slow news cycle as companies start refocusing effort on promotions closer to the next gaming convention. For PC gaming that's Gamescom. That's on 21st August this year.
But this year has been especially brutal for the strategy game genre. It's not just a lack of news. There's close to zero new games in this month and probably next month. Running a strategy game blog, as you'd expect, this is a bit of a problem.
But not to worry!
There's New Content Planned
So in terms of new games I'll be covering for review... and maybe something more (rubs hand in glee), here's some of the stuff I have in store for you in the coming weeks (might take a while though).
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War
Can there be more than war in the 41st millennium? Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War is the first 4X game for the Warhammer franchise. Besides having a ludicrously long title, it has 4 factions which also includes... the Necrons.
Which is why the Warhammer ner... I mean fanboys are jumping in joy and giggling like little school girls for this one. We don't get to play as the Necrons often enough in Warhammer 40,000 video games.
I've bought this game and it gets unlocked on 13th July. Since I will only get to play it at launch, the review is going to take some time. I must admit, I don't know what to expect with this one.
Warhammer 40,000: Gladius being developed by Proxy Studios. Their last game was Pandora: First Contact, a sort of Alpha Centauri spiritual successor of sorts. Can't say I know much about that game as I didn't play it. But I heard good things about it.
Remains to be seen whether Warhammer 40,000: Gladius - Relics of War would be worth my time. But I look forward to it regardless... just for the cyber undead dudes.
Top Secret Beginner's Guide to a Particular Sub Genre
I've been working on this one for works. It's my longest piece yet. I'll be completely upfront, it's not for everyone. I mean, it is beginner's guide after all.
Can't say much else about this one other than check it out once it out. And it'll be published when it's done. I'm done with the first draft but there's still quite a bit of work.
I originally targeted to publish it this Friday, but it's looking like it might only be out next week. I'll do my best though to publish it as soon as I can.
Top Secret Strategy Game Article
Work has already begun on this one but it's still a ways off. Haven't actually written anything other than planning out the structure.
I think you're going to like this one. Especially if you like old classic strategy games.
Retrospective Piece on Patrician III
I know it's an obscure title, but that's how I roll. I don't really pick the obvious ones. At least not always. Patrician III was one of my favourite age of sail trading game.
It may not have the charm of its Caribean counterpart or the newer Patrician IV, but it had fantastic game systems I absolutely fell in love with.
My article on Patrician III will likely be published late next month as I need to replay the game to get back the vibe of the game. Production of the article starts only after the articles I've mentioned above are done.
Thanks for Checking Out My Humble Blog. Stay Tuned for Some Awesome Content
It may not have a tonne of content, but what I have in-store is some pretty massive stuff that I hope you'll enjoy reading. I've been thinking about the direction of this blog a bit lately.
As a one-man-show, I have limited time and resources, so I decided to pour more energy into more comprehensive massive articles.
I truly hope you'll love the content that's coming up. I poured heart and soul into it. But I also appreciate any feedback you may have, so feel free to share your thoughts. That's it for updates for now.
