The Settlers Is a Reboot of the Classic & It's Slated for a Fall 2019 Release
Yes, that's the same engine Ubisoft's The Division runs on. It's going for a more cartoony, animated art style, which has always been a Settlers thing.
The dev team is led by Volker Wertich, who is the creator of the series and is looking to get back to its roots and reimagine some of the mechanics.
What we know so far is that there will be a completely new food system and a 'motivation' mechanic that is carried through your entire campaign.
The campaign is playable solo, or in co-op with a variety of side missions on top of the main campaign missions. The official website also states there will be various multiplayer modes, without offering more detail.
Obviously, with the new engine, the team is now able to visually animate the production of every single product in the game. It is said that you settlement can have thousands of settlers that go about their daily life.
Although, they don't go about their daily life on their own accord. The settlers are essentially slaves doing the bidding of their slave master (you), as you command them to do every single chore.
But I'm getting philosophical here. The Settlers is due out in Fall 2019 and has only been announced for the PC.
In the same announcement, Ubisoft confirms that The Settlers History Collection, which includes the first seven Settlers, updated for modern system, will be released on November 25th, 2018.
It's unclear if there will be any HD update to the graphics, which I highly doubt. This is merely a collection which includes all expansions, game improvements from patches and optimisation for modern PCs.
The Settlers 1 History Edition is available right now on uPlay for USD$4.69. It's good to have a proper Settlers game. Looking forward to this one a lot.
