Starborne: Sovereign Space Public Alpha Launches Today. MMORTS In Space!
It’s been a very long time since I’ve played an MMORTS. I remember the days when these were all the rage, from big publisher like EA and small indies getting into the action. Many have crashed and burned in the process. So it surprises me to see Starborne: Sovereign Space releasing in Alpha today.
The video above says that a game of Starborne can last up to a couple of months as you upgrade your space station to expand your borders, colonise new planets and engage in diplomacy.
A lot of emphasis is put on the player-driven diplomacy as the game features a skill-tree with 6 different specialisations. Examples of this specialisation include being a military powerhouse, using covert ops to sabotage enemies or becoming an industrial giant to supply your allies with ships and resources.
It seems like you’ll be in a disadvantage is you do not team up with other players. Having a good balance of specialised players in an alliance will be key to dominating the galaxy.
Starborne: Sovereign Space is free-to-play and is downloadable by the public now from the official site here. It’s still in alpha so the game will probably go through lots of changes and additions. I’ll give this a spin later in November and perhaps share my thoughts with you then.
