Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is Getting a New DLC 6 Years After Release

Stardock Games announced today that Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion will be getting a brand new DLC that comes out on December 17th, 2018. The Minor Factions DLC adds 15 new minor factions to the game.

Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion is a massive RTS game that blends elements of 4X that was initially released 10 years ago. Rebellion is an updated version that takes advantage of multi-core PC and includes some new content and rebalanced mechanics.

The Minor Factions DLC adds 15 minor factions that you can diplomatically persuade to join your empire, giving you their unique abilities and advantages.

The DLC includes 15 new minor factions like the fanatical Nilari Cultists, who indoctrinate nearby populations for their suicidal rampages, or the Grost Scrappers Union, which can perform armor retrofits and convert obsolete frigates into profitable scrap, and the Viturak Transport Cabal, who will grant access to black market Vasari travel technology.

Each of the new factions offer abilities that correspond to their role.

Each of the 15 factions provides abilities and advantages that are unique to their theme and role, including mercenaries, xenophobes, pacifists, used ship dealers, demolition experts, resource miners, resistance fighters, arms dealers, and more.

The DLC will cost you USD$5.99 when it comes out on December 17th, 2018. While this is a laudable effort to continue to support Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion, I wish they could announce that they are working on Sins of a Solar Empire 2.

Come on Iron Clad Studios, you know what the fans want. I’m not sure if this DLC announcement is a precursor to a bigger announcement later, but seeing they are adding new mechanics and factions to the game, it does seem like they are testing the waters with new ideas.

I’ll get this DLC when it comes out and give you a first look at the state of Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion.
