Rimworld Comes Out of Steam Early Access on October 17th, 2018
Rimworld, the sci-fi colony sim after five and a half years in Steam early Access, is finally going to be released in version 1.0 on October 17th, 2018. It’s finally coming out of Steam Early Access.
Initially, it was the work of one man, Tynan Sylvester, who has had help since the early days of Rimworld’s development (but still it’s mainly him as the lead designer).
And as the work of a one man studio, Rimworld was and is still… mighty impressive. The sci-fi colony sim which has been said to be Dwarf Fortress in an alien planet, was noted for its polished even in Early Access.
Tynan has added a tonne of new content in the five years it’s been in development. From purely managing food productions and building a base, it has evolved to include such incredible details such as relationships between colonists, tame & train animals, get injured wounded in specific body parts… to name a few.
Some highlighted features on Steam:
You begin with three survivors of a shipwreck on a distant world.
Manage colonists' moods, needs, wounds, and illnesses.
Build colonies in the forest, desert, jungle, tundra, and more.
Watch colonists develop and break relationships with family members, lovers, and spouses.
Replace wounded limbs and organs with prosthetics, bionics, or biological parts harvested from others.
Fight pirates, tribes, mad animals, giant insects and ancient killing machines.
Craft structures, weapons, and apparel from metal, wood, stone, cloth, and futuristic materials.
Tame and train cute pets, productive farm animals, and deadly attack beasts.
Trade with passing ships and caravans.
Form caravans complete quests, trade, attack other factions, or migrate your whole colony.
Dig through snow, weather storms, and fight fires.
Capture refugees or prisoners and turn them to your side or sell them into slavery.
Discover a new generated world each time you play.
Explore hundreds of wild and interesting mods on the Steam Workshop.
Learn to play easily with the help of an intelligent and unobtrusive AI tutor.
Version 1.0 will be nearly identical to the last Beta update 19 but Tynan clarified that if you’re running a mod, it’s best that you back up your save game.
Post launch, Tynan will be working on fixing bugs. As for new content, he isn’t promising anything… considering he spent more than 5 years of his life on Rimworld, I’m fine with him taking a break.
