FPS RTS Hybrid, Eximius: Seize the Frontline, Comes to Steam Early Access on September 27th
The hybrid FPS RTS game, Eximius: Seize The Frontline is finally coming to Steam Early Access on September 27th. It’s been in development for 2 years by Ammobox Studios, a Malaysian development team.
It’s not going to be often that I write an article with the tag shooter, but as I mentioned this isn’t purely an FPS. I’m not a stickler to a specific definition of what a strategy game is and hey… a hybrid game counts.
Now back to Eximius. This one has been in the making for quite a while and has evolved a lot from the first version of the game which went with a different name (I really can’t recall. I remember writing about in my previous blog).
Running on the Unreal Engine, the Ammobox Studio team has been hard at work polishing this thing up to a solid and fun game.
Eximius is a 5V5 and coop multiplayer game that revolves around capturing victory points. You’re probably familiar with this by now if you’ve played a Battlefield game game.
And unlike the new Battlefield games, Eximius has 1 player as the commander. As the commander you can set objectives, bring down defences and other abilities to help your team mates.
Beyond that, the Commander can also train infantry units… AI units… that can be assigned to player to make up squads. So you can roll up to the frontline with a bigger army than just 5 dudes.
We used to get a bunch of these FPS RTS hybrids a couple of years back but the hybrid genre has somewhat died down recently. The issue with most of them is that they tend to cater to a particular type of shooter audience that’s simply not the mass.
Games like these need to be easy to pick up and learn. A lot of times to a complete newbie, they can completely ruin a game if they don’t know what they’re doing.
So, I’m really looking forward to checking Eximius out and finding out how they’re going to be making it easier for new players to learn the game.
You can wishlist the game on Steam here. so that you’ll get notified when it goes live. Check out the features and screenshots below:

As your resources and technology grow, you can construct increasingly powerful units such as armored vehicles, gunships and elite soldiers. Your team can also gain powerful team abilities when you tech up to new tiers. Call down artillery, deploy quick-response force or launch EMP strikes.
The pinnacle of each team’s firepower is the legendary battle-suit. Equipping battlesuits allow players to use powerful abilities, have increased stats and is able to push the frontline much faster.
