Command & Conquer Is Getting Remastered. EA Reaches Out To Fans for Feedback
Update 15/10/2018: EA confirmed on the https://www.openra.net/ that the Command & Conquer Remaster will not have any microtransactions.
No fancy trailer or influencers parading around the game, but EA revealed that a remastered version of Command & Conquer, the classic RTS we all love, is in the works in the most low key method possible. A Reddit post by a developer.
Jim Vesella, a producer at EA posted on Reddit that work has already begun on a remastered version of Command & Conquer in line with its upcoming 25 anniversary. Considering Command & Conquer released way back in 1995, we’re thinking 2020, so it’s still two years off.
They acknowledged that the mobile game Command & Conquer: Rivals was not what fans wanted and says they hear us loud and clear. Glad to hear that.
The EA team working on the remaster are interested in getting fan feedback, on what the fans want, so based on this, the remaster is probably really within the early days.
Command & Conquer is showing its age. It’s quite low-res with pixelated graphics and videos, Its user interface is also very outdated.
Of course when it comes to remastering the RTS classic, the question is how far should the devs go in making it new. Should it move to a 3D engine (I disagree)? Should it have a new UI (yes)? Should it get new units (hmmm… no I’d rather not have new units frankly).
This announcement while pleasing to fans, I’d like to advice some caution here. There’s no guarantee this might actually make it out considering EA has had a habit of cancelling things. They did cancel that free-to-play Command & Conquer Generals game Bioware was working on.
Still this isn’t exactly a new Command & Conquer which means my thoughts on why EA aren’t enthusiastic about making a new one still checks out. So what would you like in a remastered version of Command & Conquer? One thing for sure, we need a working multiplayer lobby.
