BATTLETECH Expansion Announced! Due Out In November 2018
Paradox Interactive announced BATTLETECH: Flashpoint, the first expansion for BATTLETECH that comes out in November. It adds some new mechs, biome and missions.
It basically addresses one of the weakness of the base game. The lack of mission variety. The big addition are Flashpoints; chained short-story missions that combines procedural missions with what they call 'Consecutive Deployments'.
This basically means you'll have to roll with the set of mechs you picked in the beginning of the Flashpoint through the entire chain of missions... without the ability to repair them between missions.
Seems ridiculously hard, but these high-stakes missions also promise big rewards. They'll also be accompanied by new crew conversations, special events and critical choices you will have to make.
This could add much-needed variety to the single-player campaign. I hope we'll get a tonne of these flashpoints for a good variety of experiences, making the game much more replayable.
Other than flashpoints, the expansion will also add a tropical biome and three new mechs. The Hatchetman is the mech you see in the trailer... and yes... it carries an axe (or is it technically a hatchet?).
The price of the expansion hasn't been announced yet, but I'd say this is more like a Paradox DLC. Not quite close to full game price, but significant enough that it's not going to be a cheap DLC. It comes out in November, so that's good news. We won't have to wait too long.
Check out the list of new features announced in the press release.
