Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics Releases October 4th. Lovecraft Meets World War 2 Tactics
Achtung! Cthulhu Tactics is a turn-based tactics games based on the Achtung! Ctulhu universe. It’s a twisted take on World War 2 mixed with HP Lovecraft Cthulhu mythos. It comes out for the PC, Xbox One and PS4 on October 4th and the Nintendo Switch lates this year. Watch the latest trailer below.
The developers, Auroch Digital are saying it’s has heavy narrative and RPG elements which since this is inspired by HP Lovecraft, should be.
What really intrigues me is the Psychological System. Your soldiers will go mad if they witness too many horrific things. It kind of reminds me of Darkest Dungeon, but it’s not going for insane difficulty.
There’s a momentum system which rewards you for racking up kills, turning the tide of battle for you. The Momentum Points are used to execute special abilities.
The game uses an Action Point system to limit your movements and action. You begin a round in movement phase. You try to get your units into cover and yes… there is an overwatch mode which you can set your soldier on (although here, you give them an area to focus their overwatch ability).
Units that are not in cover are susceptible to getting hit as units firing at them gain a 20% bonus to accuracy. This makes cover a very important elements in combat.
It seems to have all the ingredients of a good albeit light tactics game, but we’ll get know know for sure when the game comes out on October 4th. No price point has been announced yet.
