Frostpunk Is Getting a Bunch of Free Updates. The First Releases Sooner Than You Think
If you're one of the few that has managed to survive Frostpunk's harsh winter apocalypse and wondered, well what's next? 11 bit Studios, the developers of Frostpunk has outlined their road map of free updates they're working on for the game in 2018.
The first of the free updates drop in June. Followed by another four, two of them being major updates. 11 bit Studios gives a little bit more detail about what these updates will bring to the game in a Steam post.
Survivor (ETA June)
Harder then the hardest difficulty setting. That is what the devs are promising us. Survivor mode adds modifiers to your game that's going to make things much more challenging. This is for those who have completely mastered the game.
Basic Customisation of People & Automatons
You asked for it and they're working on it. Name your citizens after your real-life friends or enemies, and watch them suffer. Perfect for the sadistic types. You'll also be able to name those lumbering automatons too. I'm going to name mine after Transformers.
The Builders. New Scenario
They're calling this the most substantial update this year. The Builders is a new scenario with a brand new story. 11 bit Studios are tight-lipped about the details of this one, for good reason.
Endurance. A New Game Mode
If you guessed that Endurance mode was some sort of Endless gameplay mode, ding ding ding, you're correct! But 11 bit Studios are promising it's going to be a distinctive take on the Endless gameplay mode or sandbox mode. They're always full of surprises.
Don't you wish you could zoom in right next to your hardworking citizens and take a photo of them? Well, with this update, you can do just that. Take amazing photos of Frostpunk's gorgeous setting. Again, they're hinting at a surprise in this update. Such a tease!
11 bit Studios state that there will continue to be free updates for Frostpunk even in 2019. Considering the game sold like hotcakes for them, I mean imagine 250,000 copies sold in 3 days, it comes as no surprise to me that there will be more content for it.
What the devs have left out are paid content. There is definitely going to be an expansion as well, since they hit their sales objective.
The free updates are really nice, but it's the major expansion that interests me. How will the dev team extend Frostpunk, perhaps with new mechanics, or more stories?
If you haven't played Frostpunk, I highly recommend it if you like city builder with a survival element. You can read my impressions of the game here. If you need some help in getting your settlement up and running well, you can follow these handy starting tips.
If you've played Frostpunk, what did you think of it? And what do you think the expansion should focus on?
